Congolese basketball is in mourning. The president of the Congolese Basketball Federation (FEBACO) Boniface Mwawatadi has indeed died following a short illness, this Friday, January 14. He was 73 years old.
Boniface Mwawatadi had been at the head of FEBACO since 2004. First acting as interim president after the dismissal of the former president, Juvenal Lufuma, of whom he was vice-president. He was subsequently elected President of FEBACO for the first time in 2005 before being re-elected three times. His last re-election dates back to October 2018. Under his reign, the DRC won two medals in the women’s Afrobasket U18, including a silver in Tunisia in 2004 and a bronze in Benin in 2006.
According to article 37 of FEBACO’s statutes, it is the first vice-president, Paulin Kabongo who will assume the interim until the organization of the next elections.
