Garazi Estebez, a cyclist from Atxabaltar, a second-year sub23, a runner for the Laboral Kutxa team in the road modality and a runner from Gipuzkoa in the track modality, has been recognized at the Sports Gala held in Tolosa as one of the young promises. Although the first prize went to the skier Alaia Juaristi, champion of Spain and Euskadi in distance, Estebes was among the group of nominees along with Ane and Irene Iturria (mountain races); Ayala Serrano, Nahia Amondarain; Maria Felisa Okomo, June Sudupe, Mikel Ezkerro and Ander Martinez de Rituerto (athletics); Aimar Uson (climbing); Nahia Garrido and Nahia Sarasola (swimming); Joseba Regillaga and Joseba Etxarri (judo) and the TAK children’s team (rowing).

The atxabaltarra has been considered for a few years by the Higher Sports Council as a young promise. Estebez began her career in cycling, in the category of first-year children, doing very good races and proclaiming herself champion of Gipuzkoa.

Merits since childhood

Her career and achievements have meant that since childhood she has been summoned to the Euskadi team to attend the Spanish Championships. And it has also been summoned to concentrations with the Spanish team for several years.

In the month of December, Estebez spent five days concentrated in Valencia with the Spanish, training in the track modality. Later he went to Portugal, to compete in some UCI tests. A weekend that had a bit of everything. Regular races, other good ones, having to retire in one due to problems.

This weekend Estebez will go to Anoeta to compete to test how things are going, since a few weeks ago he suffered an accident at the velodrome in the race, hitting his hip and knee hard. The injury has meant that he has been unemployed for several weeks.

Depending on how she feels this weekend, the Atxabaltarra will go to Portugal to compete in some tests of the International Cycling Union.
