The Dallas Mavericks have decided to sign Marquese Chriss with a new two-year contract after recent good performances. Another center has to leave the team for this.
Wie Shams Charania (The Athletic) reported, the Mavericks are handing Chriss a new two-year contract. This move was anticipated by many after the backup center had recently shown several convincing performances.
In view of the many Corona failures, Chriss was brought into the team by hardship deal, he has now “completed” three of these 10-day contracts and averaged 6.8 points and 3.9 rebounds in 12 games for the Mavs.
With Kristaps Porzingis returning, Dallas should have removed Chriss from the active squad. With the new deal, however, the 24-year-old can continue to act as the team’s backup center. By the end of the 22/23 season, Chriss is now due around $3 million in Dallas.
Dallas had to create a squad spot for the earlier lottery pick, but as expected, Willie Cauley-Stein had to give way. The Big Man, who hasn’t played since November due to personal reasons, has been released by the Mavs and can now join any team unless he’s picked off the waiver list.
