On Friday night in Alta Córdoba, the Corrientes Regatta Club gave the surprise after beating Instituto at the Ángel Sandrín by 103 to 90 and thus recovering from the setback against Atenas. Once again, a great collective performance by the “rower” who had the PA fire duo as flag bearers. Potrillo Arengo and Penka Aguirre stood out with 28 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists, and 26 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists, respectively.
The first minutes of the game were intense for both teams. Instituto showing all its offensive weapons, breaking with Romano, Vicens and Copello’s outside hand. For his part, the “ghost” tried to connect in the painted area with McGhee, although he had to find other arguments given his rival’s good defense in the paint, so he found good effectiveness from the distance shot. And the procedure began evenly but the locals were able to unlock it in the final two minutes, taking a distance of 25 to 17, which Aguirre finally modified with a triple so that the first quarter was 25 to 20.
The second period brought with it changes in the dynamics and that was reflected on the board. Regatas raised the defensive pressure, and in attack found Arengo who became the driver and scorer of his team, so that in six games the “rower” put a terrible partial in his favor from 4 to 21 and went to the front 29 to 41. In the final minutes the presence of Vicens was noted so that those from Alta Córdoba smoothed out the difference, which finally came to 38 to 46 after the first 20 minutes.
The second half, the “glory” started in tune, pushed by his public, to get back into the game, and thus in two and a half minutes he returned to lead the scoreboard 49 to 48. But the “rower” did not want problems and in the following plays he regained the advantage in his favor and in seven games the distance was double digits again, 54 to 64, with Carreras on fire (three triples). Instituto punished again with a much more decisive Romano, but Regatas did not allow the gap to narrow much, maintaining a good effectiveness in the basket, to close things 64 to 71.
The duel was a tug of war, with the people from Cordoba looking to take the game to the stage they like the most, verticality and intensity. Despite this, Regatas was able to endure by lowering the revolutions of their offenses and also with good decisions and above all a lot of efficiency, to get a distance of 12 points, 77 to 89 past the average of the quarter. Again a streak of “glory” left him 5 points (84 to 89), but Nicolás Aguirre took the lead, to guide his team in the final two minutes and end up sentencing the story 90 to 103.
In this way, those led by Gabriel Piccato were left with an important victory against a direct rival for the moment in the standings, and recovered after the hard fall with Athens. Now, on Wednesday the 19th, the “glory” will have the possibility of revenge at the José Jorge Contte, on what will be the eve of the first Corrientes classic.
