Time for Real Madrid to quench their thirst for trophies

Riyadh

Real Madrid failed to win any trophies in all competitions last season. Now, Los Blancos has the potential to quench that thirst.

Madrid failed to win the title at all in the 2020/2021 season. Karim Benzema et al only finished second in LaLiga, stopped in the last 32 of the Copa del Rey, then ran aground in the semifinals of the Spanish Super Cup and Champions League.

This season, fate turned around. Madrid has the potential to win several titles.

In LaLiga, Madrid still leads the La Liga standings with 49 points, five points ahead of Sevilla until week 21. Carlo Ancelotti’s men are also still surviving in the last 16 of the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.

While in the Spanish Super Cup, Real Madrid can reach the final. Los Galacticos beat Barcelona 3-2 in the semifinals, and will face Athletic Bilbao in the final.

The Spanish Super Cup final itself was held at the King Fahd International Stadium, Saudi Arabia, Monday (17/1/2022) early morning WIB. Ahead of the match, Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois insisted his team were determined to win to atone for last season’s failure.

“The coach has motivated us a lot ahead of the game. Everyone knows we will play in the final, where we want to win, and that’s what he said. We don’t need to motivate ourselves, we play to win trophies,” Courtois said, as reported by Marca.

“Last year we didn’t win anything, and we are now quite hungry to win. The coach is already a person who leads the team well, and motivates you to win, that’s what the boss should do,” he explained.
