In an article published two days ago on the ilfattoquotidiano.it, the journalist Lorenzo Vendemiale always attentive to the relationship between Italian football and finance, he talks about Serie A and Serie B requests to the Italian government for further financial aid.
In the last maneuver, Italian football had already had some help, quantifiable in 450 million euros in taxes and fewer contributions to pay. Or rather, the installments spread in the future of taxes and contributions for the first four months of 2022.
In December, the request was received to be able to re-insert the sponsors of sports betting that had been prohibited by the Dignity Decree, now, using the bank of the reduction of stadium capacity to 5000 maximum spectators (initially decided for two days) the Serie A League would have asked the Undersecretary for Sport Valentina Vezzali to act as spokesperson to sensitize the Prime Minister so that he can grant refreshments, therefore non-repayable public money, to the football clubs.
But not only that, football compares itself to the Culture and Entertainment sector, highlighting a “disparity” in treatment between them and cinemas and theaters, asking for additional extraordinary measures and tax reliefs to support football clubs in difficulty.
And to Serie A, it is queued the Serie B, which in addition to having had the same shift as the other professional sports clubs in payments in the first four months of 2022, calls for the checks on the 2021 deadlines to be delayed just restored by FederCalcio (by February 16, the clubs must prove that they have paid taxes and contributions until October 2021).
If it is undeniable that the pandemic has also affected the world of football, it is also true that the Italian football system has been experiencing serious difficulties for years, certainly not only due to Covid19, as shown by the latest FIGC football reports which he talks about every harvest year and which we too have talked about in the past. If it is true that this health emergency has made the situation worse, it is also true that our football continues to hide problems under the carpet, hoping that they will resolve themselves, doing more harm to itself than to others.
