Patrik Hrosovsky (20th), Junya Ito (32nd), Théo Bongonda (78th, penalty) and Andras Nemeth (90th +2) propelled the Limburgers to 8th place (32 points) in the standings. The Rats remain last (9 points). Before the match, Genk celebrated Bryan Heynen for his 200th game and Paul Onuachu for his Golden Boot. But while the captain was on the pitch, the Nigerian striker stayed out due to hamstring discomfort. Kristian Thorstvedt (suspended), and Jospeh Paintsil (CAN) were also absent. At Beerschot, Mike Vanhamel (injured), Jan Van den Bergh (ill), Moises Caicedo (return to Brighton) and Mohammed Halamia (at CAN) were missing, as were Issa Soumaré and Abdoulie Sanyang who fell out of favor with Javier Torrent.
Although Genk gradually stalled the Beerschot, it was not the first time Ito had powered the ball into the box when he found Hrosovsky, who beat Wouter Biebauw with a header (20th, 1-0). Without pushing too much Genk took off thanks to Ito, author of his fifth goal of the season on a cross from Daniel Munoz (32nd, 2-0). The Antwerp goalkeeper also limited the damage by intervening wisely in front of Ike Ugbo, launched deep by Heynen (36th).
The Beerschot returned to the lawn with good intentions but Felipe Avenatti did not press his shot (48th). On the other side, Théo Bongonda crowned a personal effort by isolating Ito whose shot deflected by Thibault De Smet hit the post (52nd) Faced with a resilient Beerschot, Genk took time to find his way back to goal as opportunities abounded. Thus Biebauw was happy to see a shot from Bongonda land in his arms, author of a new individual number (62nd).
The series of failures has lengthened as much as Biebauw has multiplied the rescues. The visitor goalkeeper notably got off the foot of a sending from Hrosovsky (68th) before twice countering Mike Trésor (75th). The Rats were still alive and isolated by Lawrence Shankland, Avenatti heated the gloves of Maarten Vandevoordt (76th). Genk reacted quickly with Bongonda, who converted a penalty awarded for a foul by De Smet on Ito (78th, 3-0). It was over for Beerschot even if Marius Noubissi temporarily reduced the gap (88th, 3-1). Barely on the game (88th), Nemeth scored his first goal of the season (90th + 2, 4-1).
