[스포티비뉴스=조영준 기자] India, Thailand and Singapore won the first World Badminton Federation (BWF) World Tour event of the season.
The BWF World Tour is divided into six tournaments: World Tour Final, Super 1000, Super 750, Super 500 and Super 300. Ranking points are awarded for each competition, and a subgroup, the International Challenge, is also held annually.
The first BWF World Tour this year was held in New Delhi, India. The Indian Open, the Super 500 series, did not include Korean players, as well as Chinese, Taiwanese and Japanese players. However, badminton powerhouses, such as Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Thailand, Southeast Asian countries, and European players, including Denmark, were also included in the entry.
The men’s and women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles finals of the BWF World Tour Yonex-Sanrise India Open were held in New Delhi on the 16th. In the men’s singles event, world No. 6 Raksha Sen (India) defeated Lo Kinyu (Singapore, world No. 15) 2-0 (24-22 21-17) to win the championship.
Sen, the symbol of Indian men’s badminton, won a bronze medal at last year’s World Championships. In this competition held in his home country, he was successful and succeeded in winning his first championship of the season.
In the men’s doubles final, Satwicksairaz Rankiredi-Chirag Sheti (India) defeated Mohammed Asan-Hendra Setiawan (Indonesia) 2-0 (21-16 26-24).
Thailand took the top spot in both women’s singles and doubles. In the singles final, Busanan Ongbamrungpan (Thailand) defeated fellow nationality teammate Suphanida Kathetong (Thailand) 2-1 (22-20 19-21 21-13).
Benjapa Yangpetch-Nuntakan Aimsad (Thailand), who advanced to the women’s doubles final, defeated Russia’s Anastasia Akturina-Olga Morozova 2-0 (21-13 21-5).
In the mixed doubles final, Singapore’s Hiyong Kai-Tan Weihan defeated Malaysia’s Chen Tangjie-Peck Yanwei 2-0 (21-15 21-18) to lift the trophy.
Meanwhile, the BWF World Tour Series will move to Lucknow, India, and the India International will be held from the 18th.
