Japanese cartoonist Shinji Mizushima died of pneumonia in a hospital in Tokyo on the 10th of this month at the age of 82. Mizushima painted a number of baseball-themed works, including the evergreen comics “Big Rice Bucket” and “Wild Ball Crazy Poem”.
Nippon Broadcasting Association (NHK) reported that Mizushima Shinji was born in Shinju City. He debuted as a cartoonist in 1958 and published a number of baseball-themed works.
Mizushima’s representative work is “Big Rice Bucket”, which was serialized in 1972. It describes Taro Yamada, a high school baseball player who is active in Koshien. This series of works has been serialized for more than 40 years. readers across generations.
