Cienfuegos forces fifth game in the Intermunicipal Basketball Final

SANTIAGO.- The representative of Santiago Oeste (Cienfuegos) had 54 points this Sunday from the members of the bench to beat the Hato del Yaque squad 90-80 in the fourth game of the grand finale of the Intermunicipal Basketball Tournament here.

In this way, Cienfuegos took the Final to a fifth game of decision, scheduled for this Wednesday at 8:00 at night in the Gran Arena del Cibao doctor Oscar Gobiara.

The visitors from Hato del Yaque dominated the first quarter 24-14, but then Professor Víctor Peña’s change of strategies began to bear fruit and Winston Cepeda’s pupils and owners of the house won the second period 30-23, to go to the half-time break with the score 45-44, still in favor of Hato del Yaque.

After that break, the owners of the house dominated the third quarter 21-16, to start the last regulatory quarter with an advantage of 4 points (65-61), also managing to win that period 25-19, to finally claim that important victory 90 -80 and force the decisive fifth game.

The U-22 reinforcement, Eddy Cruz (Edito) led the players who came from the bench with 22 points, being the top scorer of his team in the match, the other players who contributed from the bench were Juan José León with 14 units, Jesús Fernández 13 points and Geremy Castillo with 5 points, the latter was key to the defense where he blocked several opponents and captured important rebounds.

Eliezer Matos (Papito), who contributed 19 points and Christopher Liranzo finished with 9 points, presented an excellent offensive performance from the starting lineup of the Cienfuegos team.

For the Hato del Yaque team, the trident of Edwin Espinal, Ibanosky Ortiz and Frandi Martínez (Bumba) scored 69 points of the 80 scored by his team, Espinal led the offense with 28 followed by Ortiz with 21 and Martínez 20 units.
