The lead on the number 2 has increased to 9 points and after the second game of this weekend, away from Drop Shot, the Almeerders are in any case still the leader in the championship group.
A somewhat difficult start for Alex Vlaar and the always welcome Scotsman Adam Hall. 11-5 behind the break, but that was the signal, after Dave Khodabux‘s pep talk, to catch up. The deficit was quickly made up and they took an 18-14 lead. Opponents Adrian Dziolko and Jerry Natenstedt were unable to turn the tide and the game went to Adam and Alex 21-15. The level could also be maintained in the second game and with 21-14 the win was there.
A super start for Estelle van Leeuwen and Kirsten de Wit against Corine Breukers and Marije Bloem. They quickly took a 7-0 lead and reached the break 11-3. In the remainder of the game, the two 17-year-olds continued to dominate and the first game was won at 21-9. The second game gave the same picture as in the first. Complete control over the game and with 21-11 the opposition was quickly over.
Diede Odijk had a hard time against former Dutch National Championships finalist in women’s singles Debora Jille. Still an 11-10 lead at the break, but Diede was unable to hold onto the lead. As the match progressed, Debora increasingly took matters into her own hands and after winning the first game (21-17), Diede also lost out in the second game with a clear 21-8 for Cheryl Seinen’s doubles partner.
It was hard work for Jordy Hilbink against Noah Haase. Now the first game seems a breeze (21-12) for Jordy but Noah defended himself just fine. He was able to boost his level in the second game and quickly took an 11-8 lead at the break. But Jordy came alongside and took the lead 17-16. That didn’t last long because Noah had no intention of handing over the game and came to gamepoint at 20-18. Jordy got to 20-20 and then thought the shuttle would fall out of the field. But the linesman saw it right and indicated as it was: on the line. The third game point was used by Noah and with 23-21 he dragged out a third game. In that game it was Jordy who stepped off the track as the winner 21-15.
Dennis Koppen was keen to put down a good match because, despite winning, he was not satisfied with his game last weekend. Dennis had to get going against the Pole Adrian Dziolko, but after the break (11-9) it started to run. He won the first game 21-15. In the second game Dennis Adrian didn’t stand a chance. He dominated on all fronts and via 11-2 Dennis also took the second game with the telling numbers 21-7.
Estelle had no child with Marije Bloem. Although there was still some level of opposition in the first game (21-13), the second game was over quickly. Estelle trumped her opponent on all fronts and went to rest 11-2. Finishing the game without any problem, she could still afford a mistake here and there, but the difference was clear with 21-7.
Things didn’t go as planned for Kirsten and Alex in the first game against Debora Jille and Brian Wassink who did play well. They won that game 21-14. Thankfully Kirsten and Alex regained control in the second game. They took the second game 21-13 via 11-7 and the third game had to decide. He could go either way at 11-8, but Kirsten and Alex then gave the Haarlem team little chance and quickly ran out to 18-11. With a clear 21-12 they stepped off the track as the winner and Almere was in any case certain of the victory.
It could be even higher if Rosalie Teuben and Adam managed to win their match. Against Corine Breukers and Jordy Hilbink that didn’t seem like it at first and they quickly faced a 6-2 deficit. That gap was gradually closed and from 20-18 behind they won the still nice with 22-20. In the second game they took the lead, but via 11-7 and 16-11 Corine and Jordy came back. Corine, who already managed to return a lot defensively, put the score at 19-18 with a miraculous action, but still in Almere’s favour. Baten didn’t do it as the game went to Rosalie and Adam 21-19.
A fine 6-2 victory and Sunday afternoon the second game of this weekend in The Hague against Drop Shot.
