Hertha against Union, Cologne against HSV, St. Pauli against Dortmund: sounds like a cup, sensation, full stadiums!
Thanks to the fans-jupiler-pro-league/” title=”2 matches behind closed doors for Standard and Beerschot after misconduct by fans | Jupiler Pro League”>corona restrictions, only 8750 fans are allowed in the eight round of 16 games today and tomorrow. A total of 324,181 fans would have had room in the stadiums. Makes a maximum utilization of only 2.7 percent!
At the last round of 16 before Corona in February 2020, 281,800 fans watched in eight stadiums.
And last year? Because of the lockdown, there were no spectators at all, but a ghost round of 16. However, back then, vaccination was just beginning. It’s completely different today.
Timo Schultz (44), coach of BVB opponent St. Pauli: “It’s a shame that the Millerntor can’t be sold out. Our fans would have really raised the alarm.” Or 75,000 at the Berlin Derby.
The national bosses of the eight host clubs are responsible for the saddest round of 16:
► Hendrik Wüst (46/CDU) in NRW
Wüst has been Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia since October. The 46-year-old was previously Minister of Transport.
► Markus Söder (55 / CSU) in Bayern
Söder has been in charge in Bavaria since 2018. The CSU man is a fan of second division Nuremberg.
► Stephan Weil (63/SPD) in Lower Saxony
Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Weil has been in office since 2013. Previously he was Lord Mayor of Hanover
► Franziska Giffey (43/SPD) in Berlin
Giffey is the Governing Mayor of Berlin. Her nephew Niels plays on the national basketball team.
► Winfried Kretschmann (73/Greens) in Baden-Württemberg
Kretschmann from the Greens has the say in Baden-Württemberg. The 73-year-old has been a fan of VfB Stuttgart since childhood.
► Michael Kretschmer (46/CDU) in Saxony
Saxony’s Prime Minister Kretschmer has been letting 1,000 fans into the stadiums since last week:
► Peter Tschentscher (55/SPD) in Hamburg
Tschentscher is the first mayor of Hamburg. Most recently, the 55-year-old said about fuller stadiums: “That’s not possible!”
Cologne trainer Steffen Baumgart (50) at BILD on TV in the direction of politics: “You can recognize good people in the crisis. Unfortunately, I haven’t recognized them all yet.”
It’s somewhere else! The stadiums are full in England. In the American football league NFL, more than 92,000 fans watched the Dallas Cowboys.
Even more inexplicable: In relation to the capacity, more spectators are allowed in theaters and opera houses than in the open air in large stadiums.
BILD asked all the national cup bosses.
The Bavarian State Chancellery announces: “Next week we can imagine easing.” In the discussion is an occupancy of 50 percent of the seats. After all!
Baden-Württemberg also indicates “changes in the near future”. Unfortunately too late for the DFB Cup…
