Marc Gasol is still not ready to sever ties with the NBA after 13 seasons and a host of awards. These include Defensive Player of the Year (2013) and an NBA championship with the Raptors.

Gasol didn’t appear to have any intention of leaving the NBA after 2020-21, even if it turned out that way. During the offseason, Gasol signed a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles-based team got off to a terrific start.
However, after Anthony Davis was injured, the Lakers decided to bring in another player. That player was Andre Drummond who replaced Gasol as the Lakers starting center. After suffering this blow, Gasol thought it best to return to his native Spain and play there and he joined Basquet Girona.

Gasol, on the other hand, has never ruled out a return to the NBA. He hasn’t completely given up on the NBA, as he said in a recent interview.
“In the NBA, they know I didn’t close the door,” Gasol said. “Now I wanted to do this thing (play in Girona) and they understood that, maybe more than a lot of people here in Spain. The door is not closed. I’m not saying I’ll be back or reviewing it, but I know there’s interest from them… at the moment I’m focused on Girona.
Marc Gasol has an exceptional game and shows energy and restlessness on every play. He has an eye for a pass and is a defensive beast. Marc is a great backcourt player due to his midrange play and ability to grab rebounds. In addition to being an excellent offensive player, Marc can also space the field and make plays.

Despite his lack of speed and athleticism, Gasol makes a living by having a natural sense of what the opponent is doing and how to stop them. This makes him a solid shot blocker. What’s amazing about his style of play is that he doesn’t depend on his athletic ability. It looks like if Marc Gasol improves his 3-point shooting, he would be a great addition to any team in need of a two-way player.
