Local basketball could take a hard foul due to the possible postponement of the 2nd January León“>Fiesta Cup, a precautionary measure in the face of the new wave of infections in the entity.
According to the original plans, the 2nd Copa Fiestas de Enero should take place from January 28 to 30. This tournament aims to celebrate the founding of the city of León, unite the basketball-loving community and promote this discipline among the new generations as it is organized in the youth and children’s categories.
Precisely the participating classifications in the men’s and women’s branch are 2005-2006, 2006-2007, 2008-2009, 2010-2011 and 2012-2013. The venue would be the Arturo Guerrero auditorium in the Enrique Fernández Martínez sports unit.
Sources close to the organization indicated that postponing the fair is being evaluated as a preventive measure in the face of the increase in infections by Covid-19 in the entity.
The rescheduling of the cup is analyzed jointly between the organizing committee, collaborators and local authorities, it is expected that an official statement will be issued in the middle of the week confirming the suspension or the celebration of the tournament on the dates already established.
In 2021, the first edition of the Copa Fiestas de Enero was held, on that occasion around 50 teams from Guanajuato attended, in addition to a couple of representatives from the State of Mexico.
