History is full of sudden coach changes, even at an amateur level: it is the unwritten law of sport, which when results do not arrive promptly leads the coaches to pay the consequences, right or wrong. But sometimes the substitutions also come when the team plays well and wins and these cases can only make noise. This is what happened to the Upr General Contractor Montemarciano, a men’s C Silver series basketball team, the second level of regional basketball. But be careful, the change on the bench of coach Alessandro Valli – second in the standings with 11 wins in 13 games – did not come either due to a sudden mood swings of a smoking president, or due to deteriorated relationships between athletes and coach, but rather for reasons strictly related to the pandemic: coach Valli, in fact, does not have the Super Green Pass and cannot go to the gym to train the team, nor on the bench to direct it. The coach is well known in the province: 45 years old, originally from Forlì but for some time in the Marche region, he coached Goldengas Senigallia for five years in Serie B (2012-2017), bringing them four times to the play-offs for the A2, then he was also at the Aurora Jesi before returning to Montemarciano in the summer of 2021, where he had already been previously. “The interruption came by mutual agreement and there are no other reasons than the inability of the coach to go to the gym and sit on the bench due to the lack of the Super Green Pass”, explain the president Samuele Simoncioni and the person concerned. The manager goes further, underlining: “We were extremely satisfied with the results, the ranking speaks for itself. We parted on excellent terms and this is just a goodbye, because I consider Valli a genius of basketball, one of the best coaches ever passed in this club” . “I also consulted with some lawyers to see if the rule, which I consider unclear, would allow you to go to the gym with a simple negative swab – highlights the coach – but without certainty we then came to a decision that was inevitable at that point. C ‘It is disappointing because I was enjoying myself in an ideal, relaxed and pleasant context, with managers I already knew and with players I had already coached “. “I was aware however – adds Valli – that I had made a choice, that of not vaccinating myself, which would have had consequences. I was also suspended from the role of teacher at school and even in the Senigallia basketball youth teams I temporarily interrupted the relationship”. “I can’t blame anyone and I’m serene – concludes the now former coach of Montemarciano – Not vaccinating me was just my decision: I consider the most important health issues in basketball.” Good luck “to the General Contractor for the I continue: the team has all the credentials to play a good play-off “. Yesterday evening, President Samuele Simoncioni made official the appointment of Leonardo Castracani, formerly of Stamura Ancona, as the new coach.
