On April 30 and May 1, 2022, the doublet race is intended to be a raid accessible to as many people as possible which will take participants over the hills of the Garonne and the nautical base of Lake Bordeaux.

The name of his association suits him well. The Toqués of the slab. Simon Peyrard is a relatively serious person in life since he is secretary general at the Regional Council. As soon as he gets out of it, he likes to run and make others run. We owe him the eight editions of the relay on the slab of Mériadeck between 2005 and 2014, then the five Couleur nature, over the departments of New Aquitaine before a solidarity raid in the Atlas around the village of Agoudal.

While he is thinking about a new humanitarian adventure in Vietnam, the idea of a race through the parks of the Bordeaux metropolis itches him. “The creation of the metropolitan GR gave me the desire to discover these parks as part of a friendly event where team spirit is essential”, explains Simon Peyrard. First draft April 30 and 1is May 2022 with this Green Challenge, a loop that will take the pairs of participants from the hillsides and the plain on the right bank to Lake Bordeaux.

From Burthe to Burthe

The start and finish will be at Parc de la Burthe in Floirac. A 45-minute orienteering race later, a hill climb awaits participants between the water tower of the Observatory and the formidable and aptly named Chemin de Tire-cul. Direction Cenon then with the Cypressat park and an obstacle course and lunch on Saturday noon. Palmer Park will be the setting for a 5 km run and an (accessible) archery event.

In Bordeaux-Lac, a running and cycling relay is scheduled before an already well-deserved night at the campsite with the appearance of the EchoOs., cover band. On Sunday morning, the canoe awaits you before returning to the right bank and the angelica park, in front of the botanical garden for a few not too hard climbing blocks. “Only one participant for climbing and archery, but the rest of the events are always done in pairs, encouraging mutual aid”, emphasizes Simon Peyrard.

Environment and integration

The final will take place at La Burthe on Sunday around 1:30 p.m. with a meal, farmers’ market, awareness of the parks’ environment and presentation of awards. All transfers between the sites are made by personal mountain bike, ie 37 km over the two days, with the always impressive passage over the Aquitaine bridge and the “delicious” plateau path to climb on Floirac.

The solidarity dimension of the Green Challenge

Eight teams of people in professional integration will be invited, via a crowdfunding transaction. For the others, registration is 85 euros (75 euros until February 15), half the actual cost thanks to the support of Bordeaux Métropole, the Region, the four cities crossed and the Banque Populaire. “It’s not a raid and you just need to be in good physical condition”, specifies Simon Peyrard. “The idea is not performance either, but the ride, solidarity and fun. “We will really want to be happy to have completed it at the end anyway.
