Island Games 2023: 25 disciplines selected, among 6 newcomers

It’s done. The choice of disciplines on the program for the 11th edition of the Indian Ocean Island Games scheduled for 2023 in Madagascar is known. 25 disciplines were selected. These are athletics including disabled sports (m/f), badminton (m/f), basketball 3×3 and 5×5 (m/f), boxing (m/f), cycling ( m), horse riding (m/f), football (m/f), beach soccer (m), weightlifting (m/d), handball (m/d), judo (m/d ), karate (m/d), kick-boxing (m/d), wrestling (m/d), swimming including disabled sports (m/d), petanque (m/f), rugby 7 and 15 (m/d), taekwondo (m/d), archery (m/d), tennis (m/d), table tennis (m/d), sailing (m/d), volleyball (m/d), beach volleyball (m/d) and surfing (m).

Six new disciplines are making their debut at the Island Games including archery, beach soccer, equestrian sport, 3×3 basketball, kick-boxing and surfing.

It was at the end of the first day of the meeting of the International Games Council which took place in the Malagasy capital that this decision was taken. Apart from Reunion and the Maldives, which attended the meeting by videoconference, the other member countries of the CIJ were present.

In addition, four disciplines will be on display, including motorsport, fencing, teqball and billiards.
