Paris (AP) – The abortion drama “Happening” by Audrey Diwan has won the Prix Lumière for best film. The drama is about young Anne, who is desperately trying to have an abortion in the early 1960s.
The awards ceremony for the French foreign press film awards was broadcast on Canal+ on Monday evening. Anamaria Vartolomei, who received the Best Actress award for her performance, shines in the film. “Happening” was awarded the Golden Lion in Venice.
The musical “Annette” by Leos Carax went home with the Lumière for best direction and best music (Sparks). The Cannes Festival opened last year with the musical melodrama. The historical film “Lost Illusions” by Xavier Giannoli about a young poet received the award for the best screenplay.
The Prix Lumières have been awarded by the foreign press since 1995. They correspond roughly to the American Golden Globes.
