The Houston Dynamo made the biggest transfer in club history on Tuesday, acquiring forward Sebastian Ferreira from Club Libertad.

According to several Paraguayan media, the Texan team would have paid US$4.6 million to get their hands on the 23-year-old athlete. He will occupy a designated player spot with a contract until the end of the 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) season in his pocket. He could stay there for another year under an option.
The newcomer has scored 34 goals in 79 games in all competitions in a Libertad uniform. He also played for Club Olimpia and Independiente CG, in the first division in Paraguay, and for Club Atlético Morelia, in Mexico.
“Sebastian is a high-potential forward with an impressive scoring record in South America and the MX League,” general manager Pat Onstad said in a statement. He also has the tenacity and selflessness that we look for in Dynamo players.
Onstad thus believes that he has completed his main task for the off-season, not without taking advantage of the financial support of the club’s owners.
“Our top priority this offseason was to sign a forward who could make a difference. Much credit goes to Ted Segal, along with the rest of the ownership group, for providing us with the resources to make the biggest acquisition in the club’s history.”
The team, based in Houston since 2006, finished last in the MLS Western Conference in 2021 with a 6-16-12 record. With 36 goals, the Texan troupe finished in the penultimate position of the circuit.
Dynamo will start the next campaign against Real Salt Lake at BBVA Compass Stadium on February 27.
