Can Collin Morikawa take the last step?
After his disappointment at the Hero World Challenge, Jon Rahm‘s fine defense at the Tournament of Champions, Collin Morikawa is once again offered an opportunity to become the 4th world number 1 player before his 25th birthday in Abu Dhabi this week
The days of Collin Morikawa to join Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy enthroned at the top of the world hierarchy before blowing out its 25 candles, are numbered.
The Californian, who will celebrate his 25th birthday on February 6, therefore only has 2 tournaments left (the Abu Dhabi Championship and the Dubai Desert Classic) to achieve this objective and invite himself to this very exclusive club.
Rahm master of his destiny
The deal is simple to steal the number 1 spot from Jon Rahm who will start from The American Express at La Quinta on the PGA Tour, Morikawa must impose himself on the Yas Links of Abu Dhabi and cross his fingers so that the Basque finishes beyond 7th place.
Specifically if Jon Rahm is in a group of 3 or more players in 7th place, he is in danger.
At the first tournament of the new year reserved for the winners of the previous season in Kapalua, the Spaniard had defended his well tooth and nails by finishing 2nd behind Cameron Smith while Morikawa at the cost of a formidable last day (62) had won a top 5.
