The new challenges of Nicolas Colsaerts

Nicolas Colsaerts has returned to training and will drop his ball on the Abu Dhabi Championship tee n°1 this Thursday, as planned. But the 39-year-old “Belgian Bomber” is not in his best physical shape. Certainly, the treatment of his rare kidney disease (primary membranous nephropathy), discovered in December by chance during a routine analysis, is bearing fruit. But his preparation has logically been disrupted and he must be very careful because of his immune fragility. “Over the next three weeks he will be competing in the tournaments in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Ras al Khaimah, all of which are taking place in the United Arab Emirates. He will then take rest to undergo the second part of his treatment (Rituximab injections)”, summarizes Vincent Borremans, his manager.

Colsaerts is now based in Dubai with his wife Rachel and two young children, Jackson and Oliver. This will make his life easier in the coming weeks. He then hopes to be fully recovered to travel normally during the spring tournaments in Europe. Sportingly, this 2022 season is indeed very important for the rest of his career. His three-year exemption linked to his victory at the French Open in 2019 expires at the end of the year. He must therefore finish in the European Top 110 to keep his place on the first European circuit. A real challenge, as he likes them!
