Bad news for Onana? Inter want to continue longer with first keeper’

January 17, 2022André Onana almost certainly seems to play in Giuseppe Meazza next season. The goalkeeper would have already been inspected at Internazionale, which will take him over from Ajax transfer-free. Yet it is by no means certain that the Cameroonian will actually come under the Italian bar.

Italian media say that the Serie A leader plans to extend the contract of first goalkeeper Samir Handanovic. The 37-year-old goalie has an expiring contract with Internazionale, but has been doing well at the club for years. The champion of Italy would therefore like to reward the Slovenian with a new contract.

Whether that should pose a problem for Onana is questionable. Given his age, Handanovic does not have eternal life as a goalkeeper and Inter may want to continue to select. The Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Handanovic must remain on board to help Onana next year in his first season with the blue-and-black Milan club.

Internazionale has not announced the arrival of Onana yet. This will probably only happen when the closing item has returned from the Africa Cup. At Ajax, Onana no longer has to count on playing minutes this season. The team from Amsterdam is not happy with the way he has dealt with the club after his doping suspension. It is expected that Remko Pasveer will continue to defend the Ajax goal until the end of the season.
