The Italian Supreme Court has upheld a verdict sentencing Brazilian footballer Robinha to nine years in prison for involvement in mass rape.
Robinho, 37, was convicted of first getting drunk and then raping a 22-year-old Albanian girl in 2013, while working at AC Milan, along with five other men at a disco.
He first came to court for this act in 2017, but the whole case, after a series of appeals, ended with today’s decision of the Italian Supreme Court, whose verdict is final.
One of his friends was also sentenced to nine years in prison and together the victims had to pay compensation of 60,000 euros (1.6 million crowns). The trial with four other men was adjourned.
The 100-year-old Brazilian national team player Robinho, who during his career played for AC Milan, for example also for Manchester City and Real Madrid, last signed a contract with the Brazilian Santos, who brought him to big football. At that time, however, the rape allegations were made to the appellate court and the club decided to terminate the contract.
It is not yet clear where Robinho will serve his nine-year sentence. According to the Reuters agency, which brought the report, it is likely that they will go to prison in their homeland, as Brazil has long rejected requests for the extradition of its citizens.
