If PSV does not receive permission, it does not appear that the people of Eindhoven will open their stadium demonstratively. General director Toon Gerbrands tells this in conversation with Voetbal International.
The professional football clubs recently released a statement, announcing that clubs want to open the stadiums demonstratively. Will PSV also do this if it does not receive permission from the local authorities? “I don’t see that happening at PSV”, Gerbrands is clear to VI. “I understand the signal. The stadiums have to open. But we are not just going to open the stadium. Regardless of what we want, there are so many sides to this, that is really complex.”
“What could be the consequences? How do you maintain?” asks the PSV director aloud. “I am realistic enough to see that you cannot open the stadium for a while. Not at PSV in any case. We follow the outcome of the consultation with the triangle, mayor, public prosecutor and chief of police. I am also there myself always with you, and then you go together. You can’t play a game with an audience as a club if it affects your entire city.(…) We don’t do it if there is a negative advice. That’s what our relations are here for way too good. We want to keep it that way.”
“If we have campo parties, we can also arrange them here in Brabant together with the local triangle, so we also go together now,” Gerbrands continues. He then exhorts to calm down. “But let’s wait and see what the press conference next Tuesday brings. Who knows, the world will look very different then. The signal is clear in any case. We also want to open again as soon as possible, but in a responsible way .”
