Jakarta

Marcelo has won 23 trophies with Spanish Super Cup | Spanish League”>Real Madrid. He became a foreign player with the most titles at the legendary club.

Marcelo appeared in the second half when Madrid beat Athletic Bilbao 2-0 in the 2021/22 Spanish Super Cup Final, Monday (17/1/2022) early morning WIB. He came on in the 86th minute replacing Vinicius Junior.

Despite ending the match with 10 players, Madrid was finally able to become champions. This is the 23rd trophy for Marcelo since coming to the Santiago Bernabeu in January 2007.

That record beat two veteran foreign players of Madrid who are also still active, namely Karim Benzema (20 trophies) and Luka Modric (18 trophies). The two of them did join later, so it’s only natural that the trophy collection was left behind.

Marcelo also became a foreign player with the longest tenure at Madrid, which was 16 seasons. He was also grateful for all these achievements.

“This is a historic moment for me and the club. Since I was young, I have dreamed of moments like this. I am grateful to be able to lift a trophy as important as this,” said Marcelo after winning the Spanish Super Cup, quoted ESPN.

“Now I want to add more history to this club,” explained the 33-year-old defender.

Marcelo is still likely to become the player with the most trophies of all time with Madrid. Currently, the record is held by Paco Gento, a club legend who won 24 trophies in 1953-1971.

Marcelo’s attempt to get past Gento is possible only this season, because his contract expires in June and there is no sign of an extension. He is also no longer the main choice in the Madrid squad.

This season, Madrid is still likely to win trophies in the Spanish League, Copa del Rey and Champions League.

Marcelo’s title at Real Madrid (2007-2022)

  • 5 Spanish League
  • 2 King’s Cup
  • 4 Champions League
  • 5 Spanish Super Cup
  • 3 European Super Cups
