“Badminton is still too much considered a beach sport. However, since 1992, it has become an Olympic discipline. Halfway between tennis and squash, its practice requires a solid physical condition”, says Jean-Christophe Clément, president of the Badminton Gard Rhone club.
The BGR has two hundred members, aged 5 to 65, with slots for all levels of more than 40 hours, spread over five municipalities: Tavel, Roquemaure, Bagnols-sur-Cèze, Laudun and Villeneuve. So much so that badminton players, women and men, recreational or competitive, whether they want to learn the basics or improve their game, have the opportunity to play every evening.
The club relies heavily on the training of young people (more than a hundred each year) and regularly offers internships in addition to lessons. Supervision is provided by qualified coaches.
If the BGR, created in 1995 by Jean-Pierre Strady in Roquemaure, has today acquired its letters of nobility through a regional team and two departmental ones, its asset remains its spirit of conviviality with the organization of numerous internal and interclub tournaments. , and festive moments during the season.
In Villeneuve, classes take place at the Jean-Alési gymnasium: Monday from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., Tuesday from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. for adult initiation and free play; Tuesday from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. for minibad and beginner chicks, from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. for young people.
