Neighboring countries will face the Indonesian national team in FIFA Matchday.

Currently foreigners entering Indonesia are required to undergo quarantine for 7 days. Reportedly, Timor Leste has arrived in Indonesia and is undergoing quarantine in Jakarta.

After the quarantine, Timor Leste just flew to Bali, which was the location for testing against the Indonesian national team. Despite the quarantine, Timor Leste can still practice in the field because of the implementation of the bubble system.

“They (Timor Leste) have sent all the names. The passports have been sent to immigration for immediate action,” said PSSI General Chair Mochamad Iriawan.

“We have also written to BNPB so that maybe the quarantine period is (reduced) yes. But we can’t intervene with the government,” he added.

The issue of athlete quarantine is indeed being discussed recently. One of them is the 2022 MotoGP which will be held at the Mandalika Circuit in March.

Likewise with football which makes it difficult for PSSI to find a match against the Indonesian national team in the country during the COVID-19 pandemic. Timor Leste will be the first opponent of the Indonesian national team to play a test match domestically.

Quarantine issues are also the reason why there is no certainty when the trial match for the Indonesia vs Timor Leste National Team will be held. Everyone is still waiting for the government’s decision regarding the athlete quarantine.

Currently, Menpora is lobbying the government to ease or even abolish quarantine for athletes. If granted, the trial match of the Indonesian national team against Timor Leste could be determined immediately.

“What is clear is that Timor Leste is okay. So hopefully on the 24th we will have the first and second legs on February 27 (Vs Timor Leste),” said Iriawan.
