Havana, Jan 20 (JIT).- The traditional Giraldilla Badminton Tournament could return from March 16 to 20 next to the international calendar, in a year of qualifying contests for the Central American and Caribbean Games, and the Pan American Games, both scheduled for 2023. .
Alexis Ramírez, president of the Cuban Federation of this sport, told JIT that it is the greatest wish, “but it will depend on the evolution of covid-19 and the international participants, since it is a self-financed event and can only be held if the costs are covered with the income”.
In the meantime, he said, the Cuban presence in foreign tournaments has not yet been defined, since the FCB is waiting for the notification of the budget.
“This year there is classification for the Central American and Caribbean Games and the 2023 Pan American Games and for both it will be through ranking, that means that only if we compete and do it well will we get tickets,” said the national commissioner.
Regarding the national calendar, he stressed that “we maintain the Pioneer, School and Youth Games, but the dates may be analyzed because these events go with the school year and so far it is proposed that the next one begins in March.”
Ramírez also pointed out that the members of the national team have been training since January 17 in Cienfuegos, where they usually do so.
The luxury team is led by the player with the best results in the history of this sport in Cuba, Osleni Guerrero (Havana), along with Leodannis Martínez and Thalía Mengana (Santiago de Cuba) and Yeily Mary Ortiz (Cienfuegos).
It is completed by Marianne González from the capital, Daimer Roll from Santiago, Roberto Carlos Herrera from Cienfuegos and Adaivis Robinson and Juan Carlos Bencomo from Pinar del Río.
The technical group is directed by Roberto Mollinedo, who has technicians Maykel Moreno and Humberto Daudinot, as well as Orlando Cala, who is undergoing methodological training.
