Gilles Dewaele: “I always want to push my limits”

Arrived last week and holder in the Clasico, Gilles Dewaele got away with honors in Brussels. Cold, the former Kortrijk player reviewed the match. “I’m never satisfied with myself,” he says. “At the start of the match, we had a lot of pressure and it was difficult to express ourselves but in the second half, I think it was better. Obviously, we didn’t see the best of me in this match, but it wasn’t very good or bad, it was a normal performance. I will do everything to improve myself. I always want to push my limits and be as good as possible for my club.”

The 25-year-old says he is delighted to have arrived on the banks of the Meuse. “Standard will forever remain a great club, regardless of their position in the standings. I didn’t hesitate for a second when my agent told me about Standard’s interest. The presence of Luka Elsner in Liège also made things easier. “To say otherwise would be lying. I know him well as well as his principles of play which are already assimilated for my part. It saves us time. I just have to adapt to my new teammates. »

The adaptation will continue on Sunday with the reception of the champion, Club Brugge. “It won’t be easy but we are and we will remain Standard. Bruges must not be happy to come and play with us. Obviously, without the supporters, it changes the game but we have to show who we are. We just lack the confidence and that will come with the wins. »
