As is customary, the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) released its annual club ranking for 2021 and for the first time in its history at the top of this select list is a Brazilian team.

With a total of 322 points, Palmeiras, current two-time champion of the Copa Libertadores, finished in first place. One step below, with 313, the presence of the Atletico Mineiro, last winner of the Brasileirao. The podium was completed by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, with 300 units.

It is worth noting that the Verdao, which finished in second place last season, thus dethroned Bayern Munich, who were champions of the Champions League and the Club World Cup in 2020. Another relevant fact is that the citizens, despite not lifting the Orejona in 2021, they were above Chelsea.

The ranking also left other striking data, such as the fall of Barcelona since the departure of Lionel Messi, since it went from position 13 to 32. Paris Saint Germain, despite adding the Flea, could not maintain its third place and fell to eleventh place. Juventus also felt the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, because he went from seventh place to 12th.

Despite the fact that the Brazilian Serie A demonstrated its power by providing the two best casts of the year, the truth is that UEFA continues to be the dominant player in the TOP 200. In that section of the list, 116 European clubs appear. Conmebol appears in second place, with 50. They complete 20 from CAF, 10 from AFC and 4 from CONCACAF.

With regard to Argentina, the best located is River Plate. With 165 points, those led by Marcelo Gallardo stayed in 52nd place (in 2020 they finished in 41st) thanks to obtaining the Champions Trophy, the Argentine Super Cup and the Professional Football League.

Boca Juniors, with 159.5 units, finished in 61st place (down three places compared to last season). Those from La Ribera won the Diego Armando Maradona Cup and the Argentine Cup. Defense and Justice continues to make history and was the third albiceleste in this select group, with 159 points to stay in 64th place, shared with Milan from Italy.
