Newcastle United intend to borrow Jesse Lingard from Manchester United. But the Red Devils refused the offer.
Reported by the BBC, United are reluctant to let Lingard go to Newcastle because it makes his career at Old Trafford end automatically. Once the loan period is over, Lingard is no longer a MU player.
Not only Newcastle, Lingard also attracted Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, but MU also refused. Both teams are known to be direct rivals of MU to compete for tickets to the Champions League next season, and MU does not want their rivals to be stronger.
Seeing that Manchester United did not want to lose by letting Lingard off for free, Newcastle had the option to buy him this month. Even so, it is possible that Lingard chose to stay at MU until the end of the season, then decide on his new port.
Lingard’s contract with Manchester United expires in June, and most likely will not be extended. This is due to the lack of opportunities that the 29-year-old player gets.
This season, Lingard has only appeared 9 times in the Premier League with Manchester United, all as a substitute. Under the tutelage of Ralf Rangnick, his fate has not changed.
This condition seems to want to be exploited by Newcastle. Moreover, they need new ammunition to help the team avoid relegation. They are currently 19th with 12 points.
