They inspire hundreds of millions of people around the world.
We tremble with them. We rejoice with them. We suffer with them. They move our emotions – and have become part of our (athlete’s) life.
The best tennis player in the world. And the best racer in the world.
Novak Djokovic and Lewis Hamilton.
Two absolute world athletes have disappeared, although there is so much to say. They are silent.
Because they feel unfairly treated. Djokovic from the Australian government. Hamilton from the world motorsport association Fia.
It’s not OK!
Both have arrived on a cloud where they believe they are floating above everything. And: Once there, they forget to look down at their fans. The ones who pay for their clubs, their fashion, their sponsors.
Don’t these fans have the right to hear a few words of explanation now that their other heroes and role models aren’t standing on the top pedestal with a trophy and collecting checks worth millions?! The good Lord gave the best tennis player and racing driver not only their talent but also their language.
Perhaps they think their silent retreat is diplomacy. I see it as cowardice.
