Lidl, Thierry Marx, politicians… Michel-Edouard Leclerc settles his accounts

Michel-Edouard Leclerc, president of the strategic committee of Leclerc stores, answered questions from Jean-Jacques Bourdin this Friday on RMC and BFMTV. He notably responded to the many attacks he has been the subject of in recent days, starting with that of the starred chef Thierry Marx who felt that he “played the virtuous”, this Friday morning in “Apolline Matin” on RMC .

The response to Thierry Marx: “At 500 euros the menu, we don’t have the same customers”

“At 500 euros a menu, we don’t have the same customers. It’s a bit doubtful. If he wants to create a concept of food that’s not too expensive that we could market under his own brand in our stores, with pleasure. But for the moment, I say that he does not work for the same court. He receives a lot of journalists, a lot of politicians, a lot of foreign tourists. It is very good at home, there is no problem. He writes books, he talks a lot about judo and martial arts. I adore this guy. But he would have to come to our stores in Sarcelles, in a rural area, and he will realize that at the price of his menus, he will not feed many people. So my job is not to take care of him or his customers, but to take care of the 18 million customers there a in Leclerc centers. All these people who give us advice, they forget that 18 million people come to shop at Leclerc. And these are generally people with media income n which is 1,850 to 2,000 euros before shopping. And in there, there are 8 to 9 million people whom the Secours populaire qualifies as people with indecent incomes, who must be fed. And we are here for that. If I stood for election, it would be for these people.

The controversy over the price of the baguette: “Politicians are in a video game”

“There are two things that impressed me: first, policies work like on social networks. They denounce then that they did not take the time to read. For example, on the baguette, we did not lower the price, we blocked it. And you have politicians who turn to the State, such as La France Insoumise, and who say that the prices of basic necessities must be blocked. Me, I do it, but they criticize me when they ask for it. They say farmers should not be touched, but they have proposed blocking fruits and vegetables. I’ve seen people draw like that against each other. In fact, they are in a video game, they are in social networks. At a time that is not so far away, the politician, before drawing, he telephoned, he asked ‘Do you earn money on your wand? Did you pay your producer?’, before speaking. Now he draws. And the second thing that impressed me was that they don’t know the prices, the real prices of the caddy.”

The boss of Lidl France reluctantly aligns himself with the price of the baguette: “He forgot where he comes from”

“He comes from hard-discount, he was the one who cut prices. He has become gentrified, he received the President of the Republic at the Salon de l’Agriculture. He has forgotten where he comes from. , he forgot that his customers are the same as those who come to us and that they need low prices. That I take over while he gentrifies, that does not bother me”.
