Sauerland: Deer is serious for its own purposes, if Paul calls us, I’ll be on the first plane to New York

Kalle Zauerlands, the promoter of Latvian boxer Maira Briežis, hopes that Briedis and Brit Lawrence Ocoli will be able to fight each other in the summer, Zauerlands revealed in the Daily Mail.

The International Heavyweight Boxing Championship (IBF), Beeris, is set to defend his title in the spring against Jay Opetai, an Australian, while Okoliy will have to defend his International Boxing (WBO) championship against Mihal Ceslak at the end of February. After defending the titles, Briedis and Okolijs could meet face to face.

“It simply came to our notice then. Everything is simple. We’re talking to Eddie [Okolija promouteri Hērnu] for a year. We were told that there would be an offer and we got the obligatory defense of the title against Opatija. It will be sometime in March or April, but then we will be free, ”the newspaper quotes Sauerland as saying. “We will have our next fight, they will have theirs. We have a good relationship with the representatives of Okoli and there is no reason not to fight this summer, ”Zauerlands continues.

Recently, Briedis has received attention and criticism for trying to challenge the American star of YouTube, Jake Paul, to the fight. The Latvian boxer has even tattooed a message dedicated to Paul. Hurne and Ocoli have also commented on his actions, not supporting the deer content on social networks. “Hurne said it was a shame, but if Paul called us now, I would take the first plane to New York. I think Mairis is serious about his goals, but Paul is unlikely to agree. My phone didn’t ring. I’m sure he is confused The deer are slaughtered and think twice, ”says Sauerland.

After a break of more than a year, the deer fought the German Artur Mann in October, defeating the opponent in the third round with a technical knockout. 37-year-old Briedis has won 29 victories in his professional boxer career, 20 of whom have been killed. He suffered one loss – in the semi-finals of the first season of the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) in Riga against Ukrainian Oleksandr Usik.
