Inter Milan was almost eliminated from the Coppa Italia when they met Empoli. Andrea Ranocchia’s acrobatic goal in injury time saves Nerazzurri.

Inter clash with Empoli in the Coppa Italia round of 16 2021/2022. The match was held at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, Thursday (20/1/2022) early morning WIB.

The hosts took the lead through Alexis Sanchez’s goal in the 12th minute. Position 1-0 for Inter lasted until halftime.

Empoli equalized through Nedim Bajrami’s goal in the 61st minute. Club nicknamed Azzurri it even took the lead 15 minutes later after Ionut Radu scored an own goal.

The 2-1 position for Empoli lasted until it entered the injury time. At that critical time, Inter Milan managed to equalize the score in a spectacular way.

Andrea Ranocchia welcomed the ball from Edin Dzeko with a scissor kick that tore the nets Empoli. The goal forced the duel to be as strong as 2-2, so the match had to go to extra rounds.

Inter managed to add another goal in extra time thanks to Stefano Sensi’s goal. The beloved one won 3-2 and qualified for the top 8 of the Coppa Italia.

Ranocchia expresses his feelings after the Inter vs Empoli duel. The player who captained Inter that night was delighted to score the goal that kept the Snake alive.

“I’m very happy that we can qualify for the next round, which is the main goal. I’m even more happy because I scored a goal,” said Ranocchia, quoted from Football Italia.

His goal against Empoli was Ranocchia’s first this season. The defender, who has only played six times in all competitions for 2021/2022, is ready if he continues to gain confidence in filling Inter Milan’s back line.

“I am always ready when called upon, this is part of teamwork and we are a very solid group. I am very happy to be part of this team,” said Andrea Ranocchia.
