Badminton Netherlands has decided, following the press conference of the cabinet on January 14, to continue the current competitions (still) as soon as this is allowed. The aim is to finish the competitions. To achieve this, the competition period will be extended. The decision on the progress of the competitions concerns the Federal Competition, the Weekday Competition (DDW) and the Youth Competition.
Explanation
We have made a number of considerations to arrive at this decision. Since 15 January it is allowed to train again, so that the condition can be brought back up to standard. The competition period must be extended to be able to play all matches. This must be done within a reasonable period of time so that the preparations for the 2022/2023 competition season can start in time. This extension may cause problems for some of the associations regarding the rent of the halls. In these cases, we look for solutions together with the association.
In addition, in our view, completing the competition is the most fair way to arrive at a representative final score. If this ultimately proves impossible, but 80% or more of the matches have been played, the promotion and relegation scheme will be applied. More information about the 80% scheme can be found in this season’s implementation regulation.
Scenario’s
Based on last week’s press conference, we worked out some scenarios for a reboot on January 26, February 2, February 9, and February 16. For the scenarios, we assume a press conference on Tuesday, after which we can play competition from the next day. We have made a separate scenario plan for the First Division because there are 18 rounds in the First Division and different deadlines apply with regard to registration and withdrawal.
The Eredivisie falls under the top competitions and is played out according to the established program.
First Division
In the Eerste Divisie, the last round of matches was originally scheduled for the weekend of February 19 and 20. We have now moved this to April 23 and 24. Any promotion/relegation matches to be played will be played over the weekend of April 30 and May 1. The latest restart date for the First Division is February 16.

Second Division and lower, DDW and youth competitions
If the restart cannot take place before February 9, the competitions will be stopped permanently. The deadline for competitions to be completed is March 27. It will no longer be possible to finish the competitions after this date, because there will then be insufficient time to ensure that the preparations for the next season are started and completed in good time. This includes making the layouts and requesting room hire for the association.

Registration for the 2022/2023 season
For the First Division, the teams can withdraw until May 15. These teams do not register, but withdraw. For the other divisions and competitions, the scenarios are based on the closure of registration for the competition on 17 April in order to get everything organised.
Tournaments
Renewing the competition has consequences for a number of tournaments, as players play in the competition and cannot play in tournaments. We will contact the relevant associations to see what the possibilities are.
The following tournaments are scheduled on weekends for which competition rounds are now being set aside:
• Master Amersfoort, 19/20 March
• Master Almere, 9/10 april
• Junior Master Almere, 2/3 april
