Pep Guardiola surprises: ‘The best free-kick taker I’ve ever seen’
It is well known that Pep Guardiola is well aware of Lionel Messi’s free-kick qualities. He obviously prefers a Southampton professional to him.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said he thinks midfielder James Ward-Prowse of Premier League rivals Southampton FC is currently the best free-kick taker in the world.
“There is no better shooter,” said Guardiola at the press conference before the direct duel with Southampton on Saturday (6.30 p.m. in LIVE TICKER). “Southampton have the best free-kick taker I’ve ever seen – or at least the best in the world right now.”
Guardiola on Ward-Prowse: ‘Really understands the game’
Ward-Prowse, who has spent his entire career at Southampton, has always been known as a set piece specialist. His other game is therefore sometimes underestimated, said Guardiola.
“He’s a team player of great quality, on and off the ball. He really understands the game but it’s his free-kicks and corners that people pay attention to,” said the Spaniard.
