It is a sporting specificity of Rouen (Seine Maritime), the presence of a team of baseball high level. And as in 2016, the Huskies will co-organize one of the two european cups, now called the “Confederation Cup”, from June 8 to 13, 2022, at the Saint-Exupery stadium. Other meetings will be held in Montigny-le-Bretonneux, in the Yvelines. The opportunity for the general public to discover a little-known sport in France.

Eight teams will be competing: Minsk (Belarus), Vienna (Austria), Hoboken (Belgium), Karlovac (Croatia), Tenerife (Spain), Therwil (Suisse), Montpelier (France) and so Rouen. In pool, three matches a day will be played in Rouen, and one in Montigny-le-Bretonneux. Access to the match will be free, except perhaps the final, the question is not yet decided. “The competition promises to be very open, but the objective for Rouen is of course to win, reports Lydie Pettinotti, who is in charge of the club’s communication. And this type of event brings visibility to this discipline. Organizing such an event is also a good way to recreate a dynamic within the club, with the volunteers, after two years of Covid. »

Created in 1986, Rouen Baseball 76 now has 200 licensees and four employees. The club plays in Division 1, a championship it has won many times. The club is amateur, in France there are no professional clubs, but each year welcomes one or two foreign players (and vice versa).
