Novak Djokovic it’s news again. The No. 1 in the world, deported from Australia after lose a legal battle for not being vaccinated against Covid-19, for which he missed the first Grand Slam of the year, now he is wanted by the Rotterdam ATP, to be played next month.
Djokovic gave no indication of how his official schedule will continue on the circuit, after the scandal on Australian soil, where the authorities of that country expelled him and he was unable to play that Open, where he has the record of nine individual titles.
The Serb’s route may undergo major changes compared to his usual stops, due to the restrictions imposed by many countries for tennis players not vaccinated against the coronavirus.
Richard Krajicek, former Wimbledon champion and director of the ATP 500 tournament in Rotterdam, to be played from February 7 to 13, showed his willingness to add the Serbian, as long as the No. 1 in the ranking was interested.
“Every year we call his agent to show him our interest in having Novak. He usually goes skiing after the Australian tour and that prevents him from competing here, but this one may be different,” said the former player.
“I wouldn’t break any rules if I came here so I would be welcome. My opinion is that everyone has the right not to get vaccinated,” Krajicek said in Netherlandsnewslive, in his country.
Until now, Djokovic participated three times in the Rotterdam ATP, in 2006, 2007 and 2010, before being the world leader. His best performance there was reaching the semi-finals in the last two interventions.
