Archery adapted to different handicaps

Archery allows people with disabilities to regain some autonomy, even well-being in everyday life.

Twelve disabled people train every week at the Bolière gymnasium. “We welcome all forms of disability. There are, for example, several blind people or people in wheelchairs. The goal is to find technical solutions, so that they succeed in their shots in the best conditions and, above all, that they find pleasure in it. We see a very positive repercussion in their everyday life,” explains Vincent Moniez, one of the coaches.

The archers are very motivated. “You have to want, because it’s not a very publicized sport, to be conscientious and meticulous to achieve a minimum of results. The principle is not to systematically aim for the central yellow circle, but rather to think about your technique, your positioning to progress and not lose your means. It is not necessary to have innate abilities, but to work seriously, ”adds the facilitator.

She shoots with her mouth

Marie Da Silva Ribeiro has been practicing since 2018. “I had hemiplegia in my left arm, which I cannot use. I shoot with my mouth. » The facilitator suggests a suitable bow and specific training.

Therefore Marie Da Silva Ribeiro, who competes, always starts training by warming up the neck muscles.
