Baseball ID wants to present a junior BB tournament

The Rimouski junior BB baseball team is beginning its preparations for the next season.

Gathered in the annual general meeting, the administrators of the formation look forward at the end of a 2021 season marked by the pandemic.

“We can speak of a no worse season, but with very good series when all our players were there, which helped us. We played some very good baseball games,” summarizes the re-elected president, Jean Morneau.

The group of administrators remains the same with Martin Lévesque, Luc Jobin, Jean-François Goulet, Réjean Henley and Jean Morneau.

Provincial Tournament

The team has an annual operating budget of $9,300. “Our finances are healthy. We managed to cover our costs, despite the unforeseen expense for the purchase of the tortoise », continues the president in reference to the acquisition of a removable batting cage acquired by the junior and senior teams in addition to the minor baseball association which benefited from the contribution of Desjardins.

The team president brings forward an important novelty for the next season: the presentation of a junior division BB tournament in Rimouski.

“We had a league meeting during which we announced that we wanted to organize a junior BB tournament next summer. The response was very good. Two teams have expressed interest in registering. And we expect Trois-Pistoles and Saint-Pascal to be there too, ”he says. There is no junior BB baseball tournament in Quebec.

Tournament dates are unknown at this time. “We are waiting for news from the city regarding the upcoming work on the ground, to know what kinds and when it will be done. If it’s in the spring, it’ll set us back. We are expecting news in the coming days, ”continues the president.

In anticipation of the Quebec Games in the summer of 2023, the “senior” field of the Complexe sportif Guillaume-Leblanc will undergo an upgrade that will affect the playing surface as much as the stands and their surroundings.

Season 2022

In view of the next season, there do not seem to be any problems regarding the number of players. “It’s positive for next summer. We think we have enough. Simon Trépanier will be back as coach, but not necessarily as head coach. It will depend on the others who will join us, ”explains the president.

As for the league, Haute-Saint-Charles will not be back, but Charlesbourg would take over with the same pool of players.
