Australian Open 2022″>Félix Auger-Aliassime advanced to the Australian Open quarter-finals with a four-set win over Marin Cilic.
The duel between the two players started very badly for FAA.
He got pushed around by Cilic in the first run. The Croatian managed to break Auger-Aliassime twice, to easily get his hands on the first set 6-2.
Both players didn’t give each other space on the court in the second set, which forced the tiebreaker. After one hour and 18 minutes of play, Auger-Aliassime snatched the second set to bring the two men back to square one.
The third set was for the ninth seed. The 21-year-old Montrealer easily won 6-2, to take a serious option on the match.
However, victory is never easy to achieve when facing a former grand slam winner. Cilic never gave up and once again pushed FAA to the tiebreaker.
Auger-Aliassime remained calm and did not lose his composure. He played a break without making the slightest mistake, before finishing the duel with an ace to secure his place in the quarter-finals.
FAA will face world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev in the next round.
