Johannes Geis (28) does not have to worry about his sporting future after his contract extension with the club. But suddenly for his regular place in midfield!
At the beginning of December, Geis extended his contract with BILD information until 2025. Things were going wonderfully up until the signing: Geis was in the starting XI in 16 of 17 games (2 goals) and was only substituted twice.
But after that it got bumpier. Geis first injured the sole of his foot in the 4-1 draw against Schalke, so he completely missed the end of the year against Aue (3-1). Then he caught a bad day at the start of the new football year against Paderborn (1: 2) and stayed in the dressing room at half-time. On Friday in Düsseldorf (1-0) he had to give up his place in the starting XI and was only substituted on for Krauss shortly before the end.
After signing his new contract, Geis said: “I’m very proud of it. Something is growing here. We are a great group and something is really happening here.”
His problem now: Because his midfield competitors Krauss, Nürnberger and Tempelmann did a really good job in Düsseldorf, Geis has to queue up at the back.
