The Organizing Committee of the 64th edition of the Caribbean Series announced that the contest to be held this year in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic will have a review of plays thanks to the images of television broadcasts.
The information was confirmed by the Commissioner of Professional Baseball of the Caribbean (CBPC), Juan Francisco Puello Herrera and the president of the Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic (LIDOM), Vitelio Mejía Ortiz, who proclaimed that the television production that will give the Mediapro company, will comply with all quality standards and it will be possible to speak of “a before and after” in the transmissions of the Caribbean Series.

The “Video Assistant Referee”, VAR for its acronym in English, is the system implemented to provide technical assistance to referees on the pitch, using images from television cameras.

They said that the VAR technology that will be used for the first time in the tournament to be held on Dominican soil will strengthen the CBPC’s play review system.

“The prestigious Mediapro Group firm will have an operating room with state-of-the-art equipment that will be operated by professionals with extensive experience in this type of sporting event,” Puello Herrera told the sports press.
Mejía valued the importance of this decision to include the VAR in Santo Domingo 2022.
“We have managed to contract what they call the VAR, which is nothing more than the production of the repetitions of the plays when they are claimed, which will be available from all the cameras that will be working on each game from the Quisqueya Stadium,” he said.
