Mystery of Haaland’s injury probably solved

BVB fears for its top striker. Even two days after the game against Hoffenheim, it is still not clear how serious Erling Haaland’s injury is. At least officially. The club issues only a nebulous announcement.
Erling Haaland tried again. But it quickly became clear that the BVB striker could not continue against Hoffenheim. In the 3-2 away win, Dortmund coach Marco Rose had to replace his top striker in the 63rd minute due to an injury. Haaland kept grabbing his thigh when walking into the cabin.
Even two days after the game, it is still not officially clear how serious the Norwegian’s injury is and how long he will be absent from Borussia. On Sunday, Haaland was examined for 90 minutes in the presence of team doctor Markus Braun. Detailed investigations also followed on Monday.
BVB then announced that the Norwegian was suffering from “muscular problems”, the extent of which is apparently not yet known. However, the injury requires “treatment and further examinations in the coming days,” said BVB.
According to information from BILD, however, the suspicion of a muscle fiber rupture has already been confirmed. Only the severity of the injury and the downtime are still open. The club still has the faint hope that Haaland will make it to the Leverkusen game (February 6th).
Haaland scored 23 goals in 20 games
Haaland had already missed his team twice in the first half of the season due to muscle injuries. During these two mandatory breaks, the 21-year-old missed a total of six league games, three Champions League games and the DFB Cup match against Ingolstadt. BVB lost four of these ten games without the exceptional striker.
In the remaining 20 games of the season, Haaland scored 23 times in all competitions and prepared six goals. BVB is playing into the cards that the Bundesliga will be paused next weekend and Haaland will have one week more to regenerate.
“The break is actually not so inconvenient for us. Erling is struck. That means being able to treat a few guys, but also actually having training time. It’s going to be an intense time that we’re going to use,” said Rose.
