Hungarian former gymnast New Year’s Eve Csollany, double Olympic champion, died at the age of 51 as a result of covid-19, the sports authorities of the Central European country announced. The former gymnast caught the coronavirus at the beginning of December, being hospitalized in Budapest in serious condition and under respiratory assistance.

European Champion in 1998, he won silver at the Atlanta-1996 Games, before achieving gold in Sydney-2000, always in rings. After retiring in 2003, he became a coach and worked at a small Austrian club.

Csollany had shared various anti-vaccine posts on his Facebook page and refused to be vaccinated against covid-19, although he finally had to be inoculated “because of his work in contact with children,” the Blikk tabloid had reported in early January.

This information was published shortly before he became ill due to having developed an insufficient number of antibodies, according to the same source.
