His opponent is none other than Stefanos Tsitsipas. The number 4 in the world rankings had its problems in this tournament. So far, Tsitsipas has only won his first-round match in three sets at the Australian Open. In the round of 16 against the strong American Taylor Fritz (ATP 20), he even had to go over 5 sets.
An advantage for Sinner? After all, the 20-year-old clearly won his round of 16 game on Monday against Australian Alex De Minaur (ATP 42) in three rounds and could therefore be more rested. Anyway: The 23-year-old Tsitsipas still goes into the match as a slight favorite – also because he is 6 positions above Sinner in the world rankings.

The winner of the ATP finals (the unofficial tennis world championship) of 2019 has won the 3 matches against Sinner 2 so far. All games took place on sand. In any case, Sinner has once again shown what he is capable of at this tournament. The 20-year-old South Tyrolean can certainly be expected to advance in his second Grand Slam quarterfinals since the French Open in October 2020 (at that time he failed Rafael Nadal).
Sinner could make it into the last 4 as the second Azzurro after Matteo Berrettini. In a possible semi-final, Daniil Medvedev (ATP 2) or Felix Auger-Aliassime (ATP 9) would then wait. But that’s still in the future. To do this, the emotionally charged Tsitsipas would first have to be cleared out of the way. The match Down Under doesn’t start until 5 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
