A commotion for Mouscron-Lierse K. Alexander Maes, captain of the Pallieters, was not part of the selection. Not due to an injury or corona infection, but for disciplinary reasons. After the game, coach of Tom Van Imschoot spoke of a breach of trust.
Van Imschoot indicated that under his rule there would be no more room for Alexander Maes, who was referred to the B squad. Coming a day later GVA explaining this decision.
For example, Maes would have set high standards when he arrived at the Lisp. He wanted the captain’s armband, the number 14 jersey and he wanted to be played as a defensive midfielder. Under Tom Van Imschoot, the former Beerschot player often had to work as an offensive midfielder. However, the results were disappointing, which meant that Maes’s frustrations continued to increase.
During the winter break there would have been doubts on the Lisp whether Tom Van Imschoot should stay on as T1. When Alexander Maes learned of this, he reportedly contacted Stijn Vreven, who had already been named as a successor. Maes also sought support within the group of players to push Van Imschoot to the exit. Unfortunately for Maes, chairman Luc Van Thillo vetoed him: Van Imschoot will remain on as T1 for the time being, Maes’ mutiny was ultimately his last achievement in the A-squad of Lierse Kempenzonen.
