The Consell supports the candidacy of Ibiza as the venue for the European sub-15 badminton 2022

The Sports Department of the Consell de Ibiza has communicated this Wednesday to the Spanish Badminton Federation its support for the island of Ibiza to host the European U-15 badminton championship to be held in the second half of 2022.

The Minister of Finance, Economic Management, Sports and Youth, Salvador Losa, met this Wednesday with the president of the Spanish Badminton Federation, Andoni Arzumendi, with the technical director Ernesto Garcia and with the president of the Federation of the Balearic Islands, Silvia Riera, to whom she explained the importance of Ibiza hosting this tournament given that it complies “with three of the axes that drive the current sports policies of the Consell de Ibiza: the promotion of grassroots sports, the renovation of sports facilities and the promotion of Eivissa as a sports tourist destination”.

Losa explained that “a competition of these characteristics will enhance the island facilities of sa Blanca Dona, recently renovated, in which the latest technology and state-of-the-art flooring have been incorporated, perfect for practicing this sport”. In addition, the minister explained that holding this tournament in Ibiza “represents a golden opportunity for players in the basic categories of badminton in Ibiza who will have the opportunity to experience a professional tournament first-hand, as a public, as volunteers from the organization and even as players, given that there are some Ibizan athletes with options to qualify”.

The island director of Tourism Promotion, Juan Miguel Costa, also attended the meeting held this morning, detailing that “holding this event in Eivissa after the peak months of the tourist season will allow us to continue to position our island as a high-level sports destination, extend the season and send the message to all of Europe that Eivissa does not close when the summer ends.
