Fierce competition and intense fighting, but above all, the joy of meeting and enjoying the winter is the dog sled sport. Once again in Madona, bringing together the leaders of five Member States.
“The dogs did better today than I did. There were two falls, but nothing. The main thing when traveling is not to pierce your foot with this anchor, but otherwise – get up and drive on. There may be some bumps, some of them happened yesterday, but everything is fine, most importantly, and it’s great! ” told the competitor Ilze Kravcova from Cēsis region.
“Winter is perfect this year. We are from Carnikava, where there is no snow at all. We ride our bikes, but now we pull out our skis and come to enjoy the winter. Of course, the dogs are happy, because otherwise they would not run. They like the work, and everyone is fighting to the last, ”said Artūrs Jakobsons, the organizer of the competition.
The technically difficult track, which is difficult to find elsewhere, “took care” of the fight to the last force.
“The track is wonderful, difficult, up and down. I will stay here for another week to train before the World Cup, because it is difficult to find such a training place with us in Poland. ”
commented seven-time world champion Igor Tracz.
“World-class track, we drove like asphalt. Complicated, many elevations, turns that stopped us at times. I didn’t blame the dogs for anything, but we were brought down in bends several times, and they even fell in one, “said Alla Nadenko, a member of the Russian national team.
“It simply came to our notice then. Our goal was to come and enjoy the snow. We knew the roller coaster was what it was – that it was terrible, that it was not for me. I’d rather ski across the field, so maybe I could compete with someone. Not with these, but then maybe someone of my age would go skiing and ride, ”commented the competitor from Liepaja Anita Reine.
Given that many participants have come a long way, there are often concerns – aren’t dogs getting tired on such journeys?
“Dogs are used to it. At the border they sleep, the border guard arrives, you look, but they sleep. Dogs do not get out of the way, they are resting, “said Nadenko, a member of the Russian national team.
“I came with ten dogs. The road was not difficult, but long. We drove 800 kilometers for 20 hours, because the snowfall started, ”said Traczs.
Sleigh and skijoring, but at the end of the competition – mini-pulling: a discipline in which the dog tries to beat 100 meters as fast as possible, in addition to pulling gravity. The next stage of the World Cup is expected in early February in Russia.
